Zinc Hypophosphite, Zn(H2PO2)2

Zinc Hypophosphite can be prepared by dissolving distilled zinc in hypophosphorus acid. When a moderately concentrated solution of the salt evaporates spontaneously, very efflorescent octahedra usually crystallise. These crystals belong to the tetragonal system, and have the composition Zn(H2PO2)2.6H2O.

The salt also crystallises in small rhombohedra that are stable in air.

Zinc hypophosphite phenylhydrazine, Zn(H2PO2)2.2N2H3.C6H5, has been prepared.
