Zinc Dithionate, ZnS2O6

Zinc Dithionate, ZnS2O6.6H2O, crystallises in the triclinic system with a density of 1.915. It is prepared by interaction between barium dithionate and zinc sulphate. The crystals are stable in air and very soluble in water: the solution decomposes on boiling.

The double salts 4(NH4)2S2O6.ZnS2O6 and 9(NH4)2S2O6.ZnS2O6. 16½H2O have been reported.

[ZnS2O6.6H2O]+400Aq. = ZnS2O6.Aq. -2.42 Cal.
